How Often Should I Scalp Oil to See Hair Growth Results?

How Often Should I Scalp Oil to See Hair Growth Results?

I'm Louisa, founder of She's Thick Haircare, and one of the questions I'm asked most often is:

"How often should I scalp oil to actually see hair growth results?"

When I first started my own hair growth journey, I assumed more was better. I thought if scalp oiling was good for hair growth, then doing it every day would give me faster results.

What I learned was that consistency matters far more than frequency.

And surprisingly, the sweet spot wasn't every day at all.

1. What Is Scalp Oiling?

If you're new to scalp oiling, it's simply the process of applying nourishing oils directly to the scalp to support a healthy environment for hair growth.

The practice has been used for centuries and works by helping to:

  • Nourish the scalp
  • Support healthy hair follicles
  • Improve scalp hydration
  • Encourage circulation through massage
  • Reduce dryness and irritation

A healthy scalp creates the foundation for healthier, stronger hair growth.

When I started learning more about hair health, I realised that so much of the focus was placed on repairing damaged lengths, while very little attention was given to the scalp itself.

That was a huge mistake.

2. Once a Week Is the Optimal Amount

One of the biggest surprises for me was discovering that scalp oiling doesn't need to be done every day.

In fact, for most people, once a week is the ideal frequency. Weekly scalp oiling gives your scalp enough nourishment without overwhelming it or creating unnecessary product build-up.

My routine became simple:

  • Apply scalp oil once per week
  • Spend a few minutes massaging it into the scalp
  • Leave it on for at least 30 minutes or overnight
  • Wash as normal

That consistency was far more effective than constantly changing products or trying complicated routines.

3. Natural Ingredients Matter

As I became more conscious about what I was putting on my scalp, I wanted something that worked with my hair rather than against it.

That's why I created She's Thick Hair Growth Oil.

Our formula is made with natural ingredients chosen specifically to support scalp health and healthier-looking hair without relying on harsh chemicals or unnecessary fillers.

For me, finding a product that felt lightweight, nourishing and easy to use consistently made all the difference.

4. The First 60 Days Changed Everything

I'll be honest—I wasn't expecting dramatic results.

I'd tried so many products before that promised thicker, longer hair and rarely delivered.

But after around 60 days of consistent weekly scalp oiling, I started noticing changes that genuinely surprised me.

I saw:

  • Less hair shedding
  • Stronger-looking roots
  • Improved thickness around my crown
  • Healthier-looking growth
  • More confidence in my hair overall

The biggest surprise wasn't just the growth itself—it was how much healthier my hair felt from root to tip.

For the first time in years, I felt like I was actually making progress.

5. Hair Growth Is About Consistency, Not Perfection

One thing I've learned through building She's Thick is that most people don't need a complicated routine. They need a routine they can actually stick to.

Scalp oiling once a week may sound simple, but consistency is often what delivers the best long-term results. Hair growth takes time. Hair health takes time.

But when you support your scalp regularly and give your hair the right environment to thrive, those small weekly habits can add up to results you never expected.
