How I Made My Hair Longer, Thicker (and Still Kept My Blonde Colour)

I’m Louisa, founder of She’s Thick—and if there’s one question I’ve spent most of my adult life trying to answer, it’s this: how do you grow long, thick hair and still stay blonde?
I’ve been getting blonde highlights since I was 14. Bleach, heat styling and constant colour upkeep meant my hair was always under pressure. For years, I thought I had to choose between healthy hair and being blonde.
A few years ago, that damage caught up with me. My hair started thinning badly from bleach, heat and stress. It broke easily, felt weak, and lost a lot of density around my crown. I tried everything to fix it, but nothing worked long-term.
That’s when I decided I didn’t want to give up being blonde… I wanted to fix the way I cared for my hair instead.
The Shift: From Damage Control to Hair Growth
The biggest change I made wasn’t a product—it was my routine.
Instead of constantly trying to “repair” damage after it happened, I started focusing on supporting hair growth at the root and protecting my hair before it broke.
That meant thinking about:
- Scalp health
- Breakage prevention
- Moisture balance
- Colour-safe nourishment for blonde and bleached hair
That’s when my hair started to change.
Step 1: I Started Scalp Oiling Consistently
Scalp oiling became the foundation of my routine. Instead of applying oils just to the ends, I focused on the scalp to support circulation and stronger hair growth. I would:
- Part my hair into sections
- Apply oil directly to the scalp
- Massage for 5–10 minutes to stimulate blood flow
- Leave it on for a few hours (or overnight)
- Wash with a gentle, sulphate-free shampoo
This simple shift made a huge difference to my blonde hair growth journey. My scalp felt healthier and my hair started feeling stronger at the root.
Step 2: I Reduced Breakage, Not Just Damage
I used to focus only on repairing damage, but the real breakthrough came when I focused on preventing breakage. I stopped:
- Over-bleaching
- Excessive heat styling
- Tight hairstyles that pulled on my roots
And I started treating my blonde and bleached hair more gently day to day. Less breakage = more length retention.
Step 3: I Focused on Scalp + Hair Nutrition
Healthy hair growth doesn’t just come from products—it also comes from what your hair is made of. I made sure I was supporting my hair with:
- Protein-rich foods
- Healthy fats like omega-3s
- Iron and zinc for strength
- Hydration (this one matters more than people think)
This helped support stronger, more resilient hair over time.
The Result: Longer, Thicker Blonde Hair
After a few months of consistency, I started noticing real changes. My hair wasn’t just growing—it was actually staying on my head.
The Truth About Blonde Hair Growth
What I learned is this: You don’t have to choose between blonde hair and healthy hair, you just need a routine that supports both.
With the right approach, blonde and bleached hair can absolutely grow longer, thicker, and stronger.
I created She’s Thick because I couldn’t find a solution that worked for blonde hair growth and repair without compromising colour. Everything I tried was either too harsh or too heavy for bleached hair.
She’s Thick Hair Growth Oil was designed specifically for blonde and bleached hair—to support scalp health, reduce breakage and help women grow longer, thicker hair without giving up their blonde highlights.
Because I didn’t want to choose between the two—and you shouldn’t have to either!
