How I Discovered Scalp Oiling (And What It Actually Means)

I’m Louisa, founder of She’s Thick Haircare, and a lifelong blonde who spent years trying to repair bleach damage while holding onto my highlights.

A few years ago, I went through extreme hair thinning caused by a mix of bleach, heat damage and a really stressful period in life. My hair felt weak, my crown was noticeably thinner, and I completely lost confidence in it.

I started trying every hair growth product I could find, hoping something would help. But most products were either too harsh for my already damaged blonde hair, or they were full of heavy yellow oils that dulled my colour and made my blonde feel brassy.

That’s when I discovered scalp oiling—and honestly, it changed everything.

What Is Scalp Oiling?

Scalp oiling is the process of applying oil directly to your scalp and massaging it in to support healthier hair growth.

Most people focus only on repairing the ends of their hair but real hair growth starts at the scalp. If your scalp is dry, irritated, inflamed, or lacking circulation, your hair struggles to grow strong and healthy.

Scalp oiling helps create a better environment for growth by nourishing the roots first.

It’s simple, natural, and one of the best things I’ve done for my blonde hair growth journey.

How to Scalp Oil Properly

A lot of people use hair oil incorrectly and end up disappointed. The goal isn’t to soak your entire hair length, it’s to focus on the scalp.

Here’s exactly how I do it:

Step 1: Apply Oil Directly to the Scalp

Part your hair into sections and apply a few drops of oil directly onto the scalp, especially around areas where you notice thinning or breakage.

For me, this was mostly around my crown and hairline.

Step 2: Massage for 5–10 Minutes

Using your fingertips (or a scalp massager), gently massage the oil into your scalp.

This helps stimulate blood flow, improve circulation and allows the ingredients to absorb properly. This step is the most important.

Step 3: Leave It In

I like to leave mine overnight for maximum absorption, but even 30 minutes before washing helps. I recommend scalp oiling at least 1x per week.

Step 4: Wash Thoroughly

Use a gentle, sulphate-free shampoo to wash it out and avoid stripping your scalp. Consistency matters and the more you scalp oil, the more benefits you'll see in your hair health over time.

The Hair Growth Benefits of Scalp Oiling

When done properly, scalp oiling can help:

  • Reduce hair fall and breakage
  • Support stronger, healthier regrowth
  • Improve scalp health and reduce dryness
  • Boost shine and softness
  • Help repair bleach and heat damage
  • Create better conditions for long-term blonde hair growth

For me, the biggest difference was thickness.

After a few weeks, my hair felt softer and healthier. After a couple of months, I noticed real regrowth in the areas where my hair had been thinning. That was the moment I knew this wasn’t just another trend—it actually worked.

Why I Created She’s Thick

The problem was, I still couldn’t find a scalp oil that felt right for blonde hair. Most oils were too heavy, too harsh, or they left my blonde looking dull and yellow.

So I created my own!

She’s Thick Hair Growth Oil was designed specifically for blonde and bleached hair—100% organic, colour-safe, and made to support real hair growth without compromising your blonde.

It started as my personal solution, but now it’s helping thousands of women grow thicker, healthier hair while staying blonde, and that’s exactly why I created it.
